Watermelon

Lunch (in paradise):

Mains:
Chicken lung with ginger, chili and  sugar
Sweet and spicy ling fish with onion and chili
Ayam bakar cooked in soy, honey and sambal  (a bit like Portuguese chicken)
Chicken curry with lemongrass, turmeric, chilli, tomato and garlic
Mussel curry with tamarind
Creamy goat curry

Salad:
Long fat bean thing with weird and good aftertaste
Malay cucumber (small but more bitter)
Shrimp Tempeh
Cold cut spicy tripe

Dinner:
Stiry fry chili and lemongrass chicken
Roti with curry/dhal mix
Three layered bandung, rose water on top, milk in the middle and molasses at the bottom.

Dessert:
Mango
Unidentified fruit, looks like a tiny brown mango with out the dip at the end. You tear it in half and eat the middle like a kiwi fruit (that is if you’re too afriad of kiwi fruit spider hairs). The brown soft flesh tastes a bit like kiwi fruit but chocolatey.

Day 6: (78km)

Egg roti
Boiled glutinous rice with fish wrapped in banana leaf
Crispy fried coconut/pandan rice wrapped in some fry-resistant leaf

Snack:
Pineapple

Bitter melon onion chicken fermented beans
Sweet chili chicken
Rice
Weird sour, bitter soup. Maybe peppered bitter melon?

Dinner:
Deep fried squid
Stingray wrapped on banana leaf cooked in garlicky, curry like sambal paste. Stingray is a great fish, it’s flavoursome and tender but not like a regular fish, more like a well cooked piece of land-meat.
Chewy fish cakes
Horlick, a drink made with malt and milk

Day 5: (86km)

Breakfast (at Jang’s house):
Nasi Lemak with coconut and pandan rice, a fried egg, sweet sambal and last night’s curry
A sweet red drink

Snack:
Monkey banana

Lunch:
Chicken cooked in chicken stock with rice cooked in chicken stock served with cucumber and salted chilli sauce
A peppery soup with shallots
Chinese iced tea

Snacks (tropical fruit feast, eaten naked on my bed in my hotel room):
Monkey banana
Longan, like a lychee but squishier
Pale yellow mango with brown stretchy marks. Tastes like a normal mango but with a nice cocoay after-taste. The flesh is firm enough to bite but still gluggy.
Not sure what fruit: Looks like a small red pear with a blister on the base of the fat end. Its texture is somewhere between cucumber and lettuce. The edge tastes like a sweet cucumber but the towards the centre it’s more like a Granny Smith but more sweet and slightly less tart – found out this is called a rose apple
Not sure what fruit 2: Looks like a tiny mango and tastes like a combination of cumquat, mango and coconut

Dinner:
Curry mee, with chicken, crab and tofu. Like a laksa but with more spices, less chilli and thicker eggy noodles
Teh Tarik, frothed Malaysian sweet tea

Dessert:
Monkey banana
Tiny mango (see above)
Longan

Day 4: (59km)

Breakfast:
Roti cannai, fish curry
Nasi lemak

Durian

Pandan Rice
Green chicken curry
Salad of shaved cucumber, coriander and shallots
Shrimp sambal
Sweet sambal
Fermented chili paste
Fish and pickled onion curry
Chunky spiced beef jerky
Limon ais

Lunch dessert:
Abc with pandan jelly, crushed peanuts, sweetened condensed milk, corn, tapioca pearls, red bean, unidentified red flakes and unidentified white jelly cubes. This sounds like a horrible mess of things but it was amazing.

Fried green monkey banana
Coffee with sweetened condensed milk

Bitter melon, tomato and prawn curry with lemongrass and unidentified sour black leaf like thing (maybe organ?)
Shrimp sambal
A wet salad with cabbage and tiny octopus heads
Crispy skinned fish

Nasi Goreng with defrosted veges wrapped in copious amounts of semi-scrambled egg and topped with some spiced tomato sauce
